Tata Motors has unveiled the electric version of its popular Punch SUV, the Tata Punch EV. This new EV promises to address a key weakness of the petrol version – lack of punchy performance – while offering impressive range, a comfortable ride, and a feature-rich interior.
Strong Performance and Impressive Range
The Tata Punch EV comes in two variants: a medium-range version with a 25 kWh battery and a claimed range of 315 km, and a long-range version with a 35 kWh battery and a claimed range of 421 km.
The car we experienced boasted the larger battery and a powerful 122 horsepower motor, delivering a 0-100 km/h time of 9.5 seconds – a significant improvement over the petrol model. Three driving modes (Eco, City, Sport) allow you to tailor performance to your needs.
Comfortable Ride and Confident Handling
The Punch EV’s stiffer body shell and well-tuned suspension ensure a comfortable and capable ride, even on rough roads. The car’s 190mm ground clearance adds to its off-road ability, further enhanced by Hill Hold and Hill Descent Control features. While handling isn’t its strongest suit, it offers enough grip and confidence for everyday driving.
Spacious Interior and Feature-Packed Cabin
The Punch EV offers a spacious interior for its size, with comfortable seating positions and a decent 366L of cargo space. The rear seat, while slightly higher than the petrol version, avoids the typical “knees-up” position seen in many EVs. The front cabin boasts a feature-rich environment, with a large 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a digital instrument cluster, ventilated front seats, a sunroof, and more.
Competitive Pricing
The Tata Punch EV starts at a very attractive price of ₹ 11 lakh for the base version, making it a compelling option in the electric SUV segment. The top-end variant with all the bells and whistles comes in at ₹ 15.5 lakh.
