GMC has announced significant upgrades to its upcoming Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 electric truck, ahead of deliveries this summer. The top-of-the-line electric pickup boasts a longer range, increased towing capacity, and a surprisingly lower price tag.
More Power, More Haul
The Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 can now travel an estimated 440 miles on a single charge, a 10% improvement over previously announced figures. This puts it on par with its cousin, the Chevrolet Silverado EV RST. Additionally, the towing capacity has been bumped up to 10,000 pounds, a 500-pound increase. Payload capacity also sees a 150-pound boost, reaching a total of 1,450 pounds.
Lower Price Point Makes Luxury EV More Accessible
Perhaps the most surprising news is the revised price tag. The fully loaded Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 will now start at $99,495 (including destination charge), a significant reduction of $9,200 compared to initial estimates. This price adjustment mirrors a similar move for the Silverado EV RST.
King of the Hill (Almost)
With these upgrades, the Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 joins the ranks of the top contenders in the electric truck race. While the Chevrolet Silverado EV remains the current range leader with 450 miles, the Sierra EV and its Silverado cousin come in a close second with 440 miles.
Features Galore: Luxury Meets Off-Road Capability
Despite the revisions, the core features of the Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 remain unchanged. This limited-edition luxury truck offers four-wheel steering, including the innovative “CrabWalk” technology from the GMC Hummer EV. This allows diagonal movement at low speeds, enhancing maneuverability off-road.
Under the hood (or lack thereof), a pair of electric motors deliver a combined output of 754 horsepower and 785 lb-ft of torque in Max Power mode. While official battery details are still under wraps, it’s expected to utilize the same 800-volt, 24-module pack as the Hummer EV and Silverado EV, contributing to its impressive range.
For fast charging, the Sierra EV can accept up to 350 kW, adding approximately 100 miles of range in just 10 minutes. It also boasts a 19.2 kW onboard AC charger and the ability to export power for tools or appliances via its 10 strategically placed outlets.
Rounding out the package is the standard MultiPro Midgate, which folds down to create a near 11-foot bed for longer cargo. Air suspension comes standard, while GM’s advanced Super Cruise driver-assistance system is available as an option.
The 2024 GMC Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 arrives this summer, offering a compelling combination of power, range, towing capacity, and luxury features, all at a more accessible price point.
