Global – Alfa Romeo, part of the Stellantis group, has unveiled the Milano, a new small SUV designed to dramatically increase sales. This electric vehicle (EV) is closely related to the Fiat 500e, Jeep Avenger, and Peugeot e-208, but Alfa Romeo emphasizes the Milano is a distinct experience.
“Handbook for the Italian Brand”:
Alfa Romeo describes the Milano as “a handbook for the Italian brand devoted to the satisfaction of sensory faculties.” Traditionally, they achieved this with powerful engines and captivating style. The Milano marks their first fully electric car, with a hybrid option also planned.
Standing Out from the Crowd:
The Milano leverages the Stellantis eCMP platform but boasts a unique design. The 4.1-meter long SUV features a modern take on Alfa Romeo’s classic design elements, including the “telephone dial” wheels and a refreshed “scudetto” shield. The available “Progresso” front grille design is bold and polarizing, aiming to stand out from generic SUVs.
Electric Performance:
The Milano offers two electric variants. The base model features a 54 kWh battery pack, a 154 horsepower motor, and a claimed range of 250 miles (likely closer to 200 miles in real-world conditions). The “Veloce” variant boasts a 238 horsepower motor and sportier handling with larger brakes and a limited-slip differential.
Alfa Romeo DNA:
Alfa Romeo prioritizes handling and performance in the Milano. The car features a lower suspension, faster steering, and larger wheels compared to its Stellantis siblings. The DNA drive mode selector returns, offering Dynamic, Natural, and Advanced Efficiency settings. Notably, engineers behind the acclaimed Giulia GTA also worked on the Milano’s driving dynamics.
A Familiar, Yet Distinctive Interior:
The Milano’s interior utilizes Stellantis parts but maintains an Alfa Romeo feel. Classic design cues like the twin-dial instrument cluster are present, albeit in a digital format. The infotainment system is customizable, and higher trim levels offer sportier seats and accents. While some materials are budget-conscious, the overall design remains stylish.
Competition and Challenges:
The Milano faces stiff competition from established electric SUVs like the Volkswagen ID.3, Volvo EX30, and the segment-leading Hyundai Kona Electric. Additionally, rear passenger space may be limited for taller individuals.

Injecting Romance into the Family Car:
Despite its practicality, Alfa Romeo aims to distinguish the Milano by injecting “romance” into the electric SUV segment. It remains to be seen if their unique approach will resonate with buyers, but the Milano undoubtedly offers a more passionate alternative in the growing world of electric vehicles.
