BYD has launched a new electric vehicle (EV) platform, the e-Platform 3.0 Evo, alongside its first car based on the platform, the BYD Sea Lion 07 EV.
Highlights of the e-Platform 3.0 Evo:
- Improved integration over the previous platform with a 12-in-1 electric drive system.
- Faster charging, especially in cold temperatures.
- New motors that spin at up to 23,000 RPM, enabling higher power and top speeds.
BYD Sea Lion 07 EV:
- Seen as a direct competitor to the Tesla Model Y in terms of size, range, and features.
- Offered in four variants: three single-motor rear-wheel-drive options and one dual-motor all-wheel-drive option.
- Base model starts at 190,000 RMB (around $27,000 USD), potentially priced around $55,000 AUD in Australia.
- Performance version boasts 0-100 km/h acceleration in 4.2 seconds.
- All variants can be fast-charged from 10% to 80% in 25 minutes.
- Equipped with BYD’s DiLink 100 infotainment system and DiPilot 100 driver assistance features.
Availability:
- Expected to launch in Australia in the fourth quarter of 2024.
- Will compete with the Tesla Model Y, whose features and pricing are still unknown at this time.
