Stuttgart, Germany – Mercedes-Benz is taking its legendary G-Wagon electric with the all-new G580. This marks a significant departure for the G-Class, which has remained largely unchanged since its debut in 1979.
Electric Power Meets Off-Road Prowess
The G580 features four electric motors, one at each wheel, paired with a two-speed transmission for exceptional off-road capability. This innovative setup allows for high and low-range gearing, providing both smooth on-road performance and impressive off-road prowess.
Built for Adventure
Despite being electric, the G580 retains its rugged nature. A 116 kWh battery pack nestled in the car’s floor offers an estimated 230 miles of range. Protected by a carbon fiber skid plate, the battery ensures worry-free rock crawling and deep wading of up to 850 mm – 150 mm more than its gasoline counterpart.
Modernized Interior with Off-Road Focus
The G580’s interior receives a significant upgrade, featuring a large touchscreen with the MBUX interface and a digital instrument cluster. Notably, Mercedes-Benz prioritizes off-road functionality within the cabin. Dedicated buttons for G-Turn mode and G-Steering assist with tight maneuvers and off-road handling. Additionally, an off-road cockpit view displays real-time suspension data, inclinometer readings, and even a trail recording function.
Classic Design with Subtle Electric Touches
The G580 maintains the G-Class’s iconic boxy design. The electric version differentiates itself with a unique flat black grille with slats for improved aerodynamics. Other minor tweaks include redesigned fenders and slight adjustments around the windshield.
Limited Range, Off-Road Strength
While the 230-mile range may seem modest compared to other EVs, the G580 prioritizes off-road capability over extended highway cruising.

Availability
The Mercedes-Benz G580, alongside its gasoline-powered sibling, is expected to arrive at dealerships later in 2024. This innovative electric G-Class promises to be a formidable force both on and off the road.
