Electric Vehicle Market Heats Up as Hyundai Offers Massive Discounts
The affordable electric vehicle market just got a jolt with Hyundai’s announcement of a significant price cut on its 2024 Kona Electric. With the $7,500 incentive ending April 30th, the Kona Electric SE now starts at a very attractive $26,550, putting it squarely in competition with the Nissan Leaf.
More Bang for Your Buck: Kona Electric vs. Leaf
While the Nissan Leaf remains a decent option, its older technology and lack of updates make the Kona Electric a compelling choice for budget-conscious EV shoppers. With its modern SUV styling, a liquid-cooled battery pack for better performance, and a starting price just $1,065 more than a Leaf with the tax credit, the Kona Electric offers significant value.
New Kona Electric Trims Offer Options for Range and Features
For 2024, Hyundai introduced a new base SE trim featuring a smaller 48.6 kWh battery and a 133 horsepower motor, bringing the starting price down. This trim can travel 200 miles on a single charge. Standard features include wireless Apple CarPlay, a six-way power driver’s seat, and adaptive cruise control.
Stepping up to the SEL trim gets you a larger 64.8 kWh battery and a more powerful 201 horsepower motor, increasing range to 261 miles. This trim also boasts faster DC fast-charging capabilities. Standard features on the SEL include heated front seats, roof rails, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.
The top-of-the-line Limited trim offers all the bells and whistles, including a digital key, ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a power tailgate, Bose audio system, and more.
Leasing Deals Make Kona Electric Even More Affordable
Hyundai is also offering attractive leasing options with the $7,500 incentive factored in. Leases start at $169 per month for the SE trim, making the Kona Electric a very affordable way to get into an electric vehicle.
Hyundai Kona Electric: A Strong Contender in the Sub-$30,000 EV Market
With the recent price cuts and leasing deals, the 2024 Kona Electric is a strong contender in the affordable EV market. While it may not be the most powerful or feature-rich EV out there, it offers a compelling combination of range, technology, and value for under $27,000.
Note: The Hyundai Kona Electric is not available for purchase in South Dakota, Wyoming, and South Carolina.
