Yokohama, Japan (May 5, 2024) – Nissan Motor Company has announced a new partnership with Silence, a Spanish electric vehicle manufacturer. The collaboration will see Nissan distribute Silence’s electric scooters and a unique light electric vehicle (LEV) called the S04 Nanocar in select European markets.
Silence is known for its innovative scooters with removable batteries. This eliminates the need for lengthy charging times, making them a convenient option for urban commutes. The S04 Nanocar, resembling a Smart ForTwo, is another electric offering under the deal. It will also benefit from Silence’s swappable battery technology.
The partnership leverages existing infrastructure. Silence already boasts over 110 battery swap stations in Spain, with plans to expand to 160 locations by the end of 2024. This network will be crucial for users of both the scooters and the S04 Nanocar.
The rollout begins in June 2024, with dealerships in France and Italy offering Silence’s electric scooters and the S04 Nanocar. Germany will follow suit in September. This collaboration caters to the growing demand for sustainable urban mobility solutions in Europe.
The S04 Nanocar comes in two variants: L6e and L7e. The L6e, operable without a license, offers a lower top speed and range compared to the L7e, which requires a license.
Silence also offers a “battery-as-a-service” subscription plan, providing users with a convenient way to manage battery maintenance.
This partnership between Nissan and Silence positions both companies to capitalize on the growing electric mobility market in Europe, particularly in densely populated urban areas. The combination of convenient battery swapping technology and a growing network of charging stations makes their offerings a compelling option for eco-conscious urban commuters.
