IM Motors, a Chinese automaker, has offered a first glimpse of the L6, its new electric sedan. The L6 boasts impressive specifications and innovative features, positioning itself as a strong contender in the growing electric vehicle market.
Performance and Range:
- The L6 boasts a powerful dual-motor powertrain generating 579 kW (785 horsepower), capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) in a claimed 2.74 seconds.
- IM claims the L6 will be the first car to utilize a solid-state battery, offering a driving range of over 1,000 km (621 miles) according to the China CLTC cycle. The battery capacity will be 133 kWh.
Design and Technology:
- The L6 adopts a design language similar to the IM LS6 SUV, featuring a drag coefficient of 0.226 for improved aerodynamics.
- While the L6 utilizes a liftback design, the rear cargo area appears to be somewhat limited.
- The car features adjustable air suspension and rear-wheel steering, enabling “crab walking” and complete turns.
- A LiDAR unit is included as part of the driver-assistance system, powered by an Nvidia Orin X chipset.
- The interior features adjustable-height upper screens, a smaller lower screen for climate control, and a wireless charging pad. The screens are powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 processor.
Passenger Comfort:
- The L6 offers ample legroom in the rear seats due to its long 2.95-meter wheelbase. Heated and cooled seats provide further comfort, though massage functionality is absent.
- The rear lacks a dedicated screen for passenger entertainment, but an IM mag system allows for attaching a screen like an iPad with a single USB-C charging port available.
