Beijing, China – Toyota has taken the wraps off two new electric vehicles, the bZ3C and bZ3X, at the Beijing Auto Show. These are not concept cars, but production models intended for the Chinese market, a key battleground in the electric vehicle (EV) industry.
Developed with BYD
The bZ3C and bZ3X are the result of a collaboration between Toyota and BYD, a leading Chinese EV manufacturer. BYD will likely supply the vehicles’ lithium-ion phosphate blade batteries, known for their high energy density.
Targeting a Growing Market
With China projected to sell 10 million EVs in 2024, Toyota is aiming to capture a share of this rapidly growing market. The company acknowledges it has lagged behind in EVs compared to competitors and is working to gain a foothold.
Stylish Design and Advanced Features
The bZ3C is a sleek crossover SUV, while the bZ3X is a larger three-row SUV. Both vehicles boast minimalist interiors with large central infotainment displays and digital gauge clusters. Additionally, Toyota assures that the cars will be equipped with the latest driver assistance features.
Global Availability Uncertain
While the initial launch is focused on China, Toyota has not yet announced plans for selling these vehicles in other markets. The success of these models could influence Toyota’s global EV strategy.
