Magna Unveils Next-Gen Electric Motor with Industry-Leading Efficiency 800-Volt and Compact Design

Magna International Inc. (Magna) unveiled its next-generation 800-volt eDrive system at CES 2024, boasting significant advancements in efficiency, power density, and size reduction.

This new eDrive delivers a remarkable 93% efficiency in real-world driving conditions, a leap from the previous generation’s 91%. This translates to extended range and potential battery pack reductions for future electric vehicles (EVs).

More Power, Less Weight

The Magna eDrive achieves a peak power of 250 kW (335 horsepower) while weighing only 75 kg (165 lb). This represents a 20% size reduction compared to Magna’s prior offering, allowing for more flexibility in vehicle design and potentially larger cabin spaces.
