The super SUV will be built on a new AMG-developed platform called AMG EA and is expected to feature powerful axial flux electric motors from Yasa, a company acquired by Mercedes-AMG three years ago. Yasa’s motors are known for their impressive power output (up to 486 horsepower) and lightweight design (around 59 lbs). The AMG EA platform can accommodate up to four of these motors, enabling a quad-motor all-wheel-drive configuration.

This powerful electric drivetrain is expected to propel the super SUV past the 1,000 horsepower mark, putting it in a league of its own. The SUV will be Mercedes-AMG’s second all-electric vehicle, following the upcoming GT 4-door EV expected next year.

Both the GT 4-door and the super SUV will benefit from an 800-volt architecture and a high-performance battery pack with advanced cell chemistry and silicon anode material.

Design-wise, the super SUV is rumored to be previewed by an upcoming concept car and will have a distinct look compared to regular Mercedes-Benz offerings. It is expected to be similar in size to the 2012 Vision AMG concept, with a length of around 200 inches and a wheelbase exceeding 118 inches. The interior is also said to feature a unique AMG-specific user interface based on the existing Mercedes-Benz operating system.
